As of the 22nd June, the 3-month extension period for trucks, trailers and buses to receive their MOT has come to an end. After the 4th July, you can book your annual MOT test for your trailer, lorry or bus, which will be essential to prove that your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition. The deadline for the test to be completed depends on the original deadline for your annual MOT, so it is important to check this beforehand.

When is my MOT due?

Under the government guidelines released during the coronavirus pandemic, your bus, trailer or lorry was given an automatic MOT exemption of 3 months, starting from the date of your original MOT deadline.

If the original MOT deadline for your truck, trailer or lorry was in March or April of this year, you will have been given two extensions that are 3 months long. If your vehicle was due an MOT in May, June, July or August of this year, you will only have been granted one 3-month extension.

If you are not sure what the original due date for your MOT was, you can check this on the government website here. You can also check whether or not your vehicle passed or failed, its mileage at the time of testing, where the test was completed and which parts failed each test, as well as any minor issues that were identified.

If the MOT for your bus, trailer or lorry expired and you did not receive an MOT exemption, get in touch with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.

Vehicle tax and transporting dangerous goods

If the deadline for your vehicle tax is approaching, the MOT exemption will give you permission to tax your vehicle immediately. If your dangerous goods vehicle has not been tested and you were supplied with a 3-month MOT exemption, you need to apply for a waiver in order to continue transporting your goods.

The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency is still actively testing, so it is essential to ensure that your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition. At James Hart (Chorley) Limited, we prepare trucks for MOTs by providing expert truck maintenance services.
